Four Divided by One: CCA Bench Project 2005

Nearing the end of my graduate program I removed four underused teak benches (typically used in outdoor settings because of the wood’s resilience to weather) from an interior corridor of the San Francisco campus of California College of the Arts. Over the course of a month I took the benches to various outdoor locations in the surrounding region and photographed as passers-by used the benches. I returned the benches for the MFA exhibition, mounted four of the photographs in teak frames, and installed them opposite the benches at sitting height.
